If you’re really a serious gardener, then investing in gardening and lawn equipment is a sound decision. They are durable, make landscaping and gardening task easier, and will save you money over time. However, you don’t have to spend a lot for these equipment if you consider ways to cut down cost.

If a chainsaw, lawn mower, or an edge trimmer is a part of your gardening equipment list, you need to go for the basic models without the hi-tech gadgetry. Extra features raise the price tag on any item substantially. These features are also the first ones to break down which end up in costly repairs. Choose high quality brands but get the basic bare-bones models which will serve you well for years.

February is the slowest month as far as equipment sales is concerned. Shop for garden equipment in February when dealers need to clear out last year’s remaining equipment stocks to make room for newer models this year. Forgo shopping from March to June when prices for these items are at their peak.

Watch out for sales once summer has peaked as equipment dealers hit another low in sales around this time. You can avail of discounts as high as 20% to 25% on many lawn and garden products.

Visit gardening equipment supplies warehouse stores. Their yard equipment prices are much lower than those found in home improvement stores and hardware. And watch out for their big clearance sale at season’s end where you can get these items at rock-bottom prices. You have to be quick, though, before they’re all sold out.

Due to low overhead expenses and a wide customer base, Internet-based equipment suppliers often offer lower prices than brick-and-mortar dealers. Most equipment are cheaper, even if they include shipping and handling fees, if you order them online.

You can also buy used or reconditioned garden and lawn equipment. Search for them in the classified ads of your local paper, as well as in lawn mower repair shops. Be sure to check out the yellow pages under the headings of “garden equipment”, “lawn equipment” or “lawn mower” for companies selling their used equipment.

Once you purchased your desired gardening equipment, get more out of your money by providing them proper care and maintenance. Read the accompanying guide books and comply with the manufacturing company’s maintenance schedules so your lawn and garden equipment will be in tip-top shape whenever you need them.
